FAQ

Welcome to Friend's Tapes, the simplest music notification app around! Here's a quick rundown of how it works.

If you have any additional questions or ideas, feel free to reach out to us on Twitter or via email - we're happy to help!

How do new music notifications work?

It's easy! Simply enter the name of your favorite band or artist and your email address on our website. Once you confirm your email, we'll start tracking new music releases from the bands or artists you've subscribed to. Every time they release new music, we'll send you a short email alert with the release name and a link to listen to it.

2

How many bands/artists can I subscribe to?

Due to huge demand, we've temporarily set a limit to 25 free subscriptions per user. If you'd like to subscribe to more than 25 bands or artists, please drop us an email and we'll guide you on how to subscribe to more!

3

What does the email notification for a new release look like?

Our email alerts are simple and easy to read. You'll receive the band's name, the release name (album, EP, or single), and a link to listen on Spotify. If the release is on Spotify, you can also find it on other music streaming apps like Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal, YouTube Music, or Amazon Music, because most artists drop their music on all streaming apps simultaneously.

4

Do you have mobile new music alerts?

Friend's Tapes is not a mobile app, but we think email alerts are the best way to stay on top of new music releases. Read below for more information on why we think so.

5

How often will I receive new music notifications?

We'll only send you email alerts about new music releases once they're published on music streaming apps. Currently, we track new releases on Spotify, but most artists release their music on all music streaming apps simultaneously.

So, how often you'll receive alerts depends on how often your favorite bands or artists release new music.

6

Can I unsubscribe from new album notifications?

Yes, you can unsubscribe from email alerts at any time. Each email has a link that allows you to manage your subscriptions (see the end of the email), so you can turn notifications on or off for each band or artist.

7

Can I connect my Spotify (Apple Music, etc.) account and sync my favorite artists?

For now, we decided to keep things simple, so there’s no option to sync your music library automatically. You’ll need to subscribe to each band or artist manually. We may develop this feature in the future, though. If you’d like to have it, please let us know!

8

How is it better than new music notifications on Spotify, Tidal, Deezer, Apple Music, and other music streaming apps?

Friend's Tapes is different.

To get new release alerts on music streaming apps, you'll need to proactively seek them out: open an app, check the section with new music notifications or recommendations, and so on. This can be time-consuming and unreliable.

Some apps have built-in mobile notifications that alert about new releases, but they are often not very accurate or delayed. It’s also easy to miss mobile notifications, and they are distractive.

With Friend’s Tapes, you have peace of mind. Subscribe to notifications for new music from your favourite bands and artists, and get email notifications once in a while when they release new songs. You can immediately start listening to the latest music, or ignore them, or come back to them later. You’re in total control, but not distracted.

9

Is it free to use?

Yes, you can use Friend’s Tapes new album notifications for free for up to 25 subscriptions to the bands/artists. You can also show your support by buying us a coffee

10

Can I choose what kind of releases (albums, singles, EPs) to get alerted about?

Currently, there's no option to choose the release type; our app will notify you about all of them. However, we may develop this feature in the future, so please let us know if this is something you'd like to see.

11

Where can I see the bands/artists I've subscribed to?

Each email with new releases you receive from Friend's Tapes contains a link to your personal subscription management page. Please see the end of the email, where it says: "You can manage your email notifications here(link)."

12
